Towan Beach, Newquay
This Chair is in storage or undergoing maintenance
Town Beach, located in the North of Cornwall, is the closest beach to Newquay town centre, within walking distance. It is situated at the bottom of sloping hill, bordered by the harbour and along the back there is a raised promenade which leads up to the grassy clifftop lawns of Killacourt.
Towan is the western of four beaches that connect together at low tide to create a larger beach. Rockpools filled with marine life are uncovered as the tide goes out, then when the tide comes in Towan becomes a cosy cove.
A family friendly beach, with smaller waves, meaning safer paddling conditions and plenty of sandy space for activities on the beach while the tide is out.
The most iconic feature, Jago’s island, is a towering rocky outcrop connected to the mainland by a suspension footbridge. With a twentieth century house on top, this is now a luxury holiday home.
At the beach front is the Blue Reef Aquarium, one of Newquays most popular tourist attractions. Surrounding the beach are many facilities within the town centre like shops, cafe’s, amusement’s, restaurant’s and bakeries.
Accessibility to the beach can be accessed by the beach road which is fairly steep, this leads to the slope that provides access to get on to the beach.
Dogs are welcome to the beach all year round
